ORGANIZATION: FISH & LOAVES

Saturday Fresh Market Logo

Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry is in need of volunteers to help assemble and load bags of food into clients' trunks during our Saturday Fresh Markets. When you sign up for this opportunity with Volunteer Match, you will receive an email to choose a Saturday that works for you. We work from 08:15-12:15.
This is a mobile distribution where food is loaded into the trunks and clients stay in their vehicles. Every precaution is made to keep the market safe and efficient for both volunteers and clients. Please do not volunteer if you are not feeling well. Volunteers should dress for the weather as there may be extended periods outside. The warehouse door will be open. Closed toe shoes are required. Parents may bring their children (11 and older) to volunteer. Students needing service hours are welcome to volunteer. Children under the age of 16 must have an adult volunteer with them. Respond to this opportunity and we will respond via email with available weekends. Our customers are very appreciative of the volunteers who help increase food access. The impact that we make is significant. If you reply to this opportunity and do not receive a response within 3 business days, please check your spam or junk folder. We always reply to volunteer inquiries. Volunteers are at the heart of everything that we do.

About FISH & LOAVES

Location:

25670 NORTHLINE RD, TAYLOR, MI 48180, US

Mission Statement

Fish & Loaves is a 501(c)3, client-choice, food pantry, "Ensuring No One Goes Hungry" in the communities they serve. It is a faith based, non-sectarian organization staffed by volunteers serving those in need regardless of religious beliefs. Located in a 12,000 square-foot facility, the pantry currently serves residents of seven adjacent communities--Allen Park, Brownstown Township, Dearborn Heights, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, and Woodhaven.

Description

Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry was first launched by an ecumenical group of Taylor churches inspired by a miracle story from the gospels-Jesus feeding the multitudes with five barley loaves and two fish. Fish & Loaves’ own founding and growth has been miraculous. Some of the churches involved had their own emergency food pantries and others did not. However, they all united to ensure that families and individuals had access to more comprehensive and long-term food assistance in the face of tough times. The client-choice pantry is currently the largest facility of its kind in the Metro Detroit area and has become a model for other similar community initiatives in Macomb and Wayne Counties. Since its grand opening in 2008, Fish & Loaves has also hosted visitors from thirty different countries interested in learning how Metro Detroiters are responding to the needs created by a rapidly changing economy.
