Help Serve Lunch to Older Adults
ORGANIZATION: Goodman Community Center
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Goodman Community Center Senior meal is one of the highlights of our Older Adult Programming. Our meal runs Monday through Friday and we are looking for volunteers to help create a welcoming and friendly experience. Our seniors love getting together to enjoy delicious food and warm community.
Meal service is split up into two shifts -
- 10:00 am - 12:30 pm (1st shift)
- 10:45 am - 1:15 pm (middle shift)
- 11:30 am - 2:00 pm (2nd shift)
Seniors are welcomed for coffee at 10:30 am and lunch is served at noon.
Volunteers are needed:
- Monday or Wednesdays, 1nd shift
- Tuesday, Middle shift
Responsibilities include making and serving coffee, setting up the dining room and preparing salads and our fruit cups during the first and middle shift. During second and middle shift volunteers are plating and serving the meal and beverages followed by bussing the tables and cleaning the kitchen. We ask that volunteers are comfortable being on their feet for most of the shift, and have a positive attitude when working with others. All volunteers are welcome to eat alongside the seniors after everyone is served.
Please reach out if you can support any of these shifts and let us know your availability. We are looking for weekly or bi-weekly commitments for at least three months.

Description
The Goodman Community Center is not your average community center. As I get to talking with people about Goodman, they inevitably end up surprised. They’re surprised by how many programs and resources we offer, how beautiful our facilities are, or how many people we serve. Every year more than 30,000 people use the Center - some who come to one event, others who are very familiar faces here.
Thanks to our generous community, we just built and moved into a second beautiful facility across the street, the Brassworks building. We’re now reconfiguring and refreshing the Center’s first home on Waubesa Street, the Ironworks building. During this past ten years, we’ve nearly doubled in size.
Our staff are committed to learning and continually improving, too. That’s why each program uses a variety of tools to measure impacts for both the program overall, and for each individual participant. We use that data to constantly fine-tune what we do - and how we do it.
We’re glad Goodman is one of many organizations in the Madison area who are pouring themselves into making our community great - for us all. We hope you’ll join us. Because we know that every good thing that happens here is made possible by people like you.
