The VNA Phoenix Center is a one of kind grief support program for children, teens, young adults and their families. This program is offered free of charge to those in need of grief support, so we rely heavily on the participation of volunteers in this program. Volunteers are asked to complete our background check process and in-person training program.
The VNA Phoenix Center provides a safe and supportive environment for children and their families as they grieve. Through a variety of fun and age appropriate activities, youth and families have the opportunity to interact with peers, learn and practice coping skills, express their feelings, and tell their stories.
Volunteers help set up for the activity that day, facilitate the activity with other volunteers, and are a listening ear the kids can trust.

Mission Statement
To be the foremost patient focused provider of aging hospice, palliative, and grief support in Northwest Indiana.
Description
The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County is a not for profit organization committed to providing the highest quality of care to persons in the community. In 1970, nurses from Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana, voiced their concerns about patients who were discharged but still needed medical care. In answer to their plea, the Visiting Nurse Association was founded in September, 1970 to become the first home health care agency in Porter County, offering nursing and physical therapy. Over the years, the VNA has responded to the changing needs of the community by adding services including speech and occupational therapy, home health aide services, nutritional counseling, medical social services and hospice. Today the VNA continues to provide home and inpatient hospice care, VNA Meals on Wheels, Medical Guardian help button, and children's grief support at the VNA Phoenix Center.
