Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Butler County seeks high school students, college students, and adults from the community to be mentors for children in our School-Based Mentoring Program.
School-Based Mentors are paired with elementary-aged children in a group environment. We call these pairs "matches." School-Based matches meet once per week at a participating elementary school in Butler County. Meetings occur immediately following the end of the school day. Matches participate in fun and enriching group activities facilitated by a BBBS coordinator, and they have the opportunity to spend time talking or working on homework on a one-to-one basis. Matches meet once a week throughout the academic year.
This is an ideal opportunity for high school and college students to gain valuable volunteer service hours in a nationally-recognized program, while inspiring and empowering a younger person. This is also an ideal opportunity for workplace groups to volunteer together.
School-Based Mentors can be high school students, college students, or adults from the community. Student volunteers are required to submit an application (with parent permission, if under 18), including references, and complete a screening interview. Adult volunteers are required to submit an application with references, complete a screening interview, and pass a criminal background check. All School-Based Mentors must be able to commit to the full academic year.
