West Place Animal Sanctuary is a forever home for abused, neglected, and abandoned farm animals. We also rehabilitate wildlife and are a temporary holding facility for lost dogs in Tiverton and Little Compton. West Place does a lot to help the community, but we can't do it all ourselves! We need help from dedicated volunteers who believe in our mission. We are in need of volunteers to help in many different ways around our sanctuary:
Direct Care: You will work directly with the animals giving them care and maintaining their living facilities. Duties may include but are not limited to providing food and water, mucking each building daily, washing dishes, poop scooping, and lots of animal enrichment.
Special cleaner: Goes above and beyond to help with tasks that aren't done as frequently, such as vacuuming and dusting our gift shop, cleaning windows, dusting the barn and duck coop, cleaning tools, etc.
Organizer: We need help organizing our sheds, loft, and gift shop on a regular basis. These areas can get cluttered or disorganized rather quickly and we need help maintaining a neat and organized supply area.
Greenthumb: At West Place, we love our plants! Our animals would not thrive without them. Many of our plants provide ample shade and protection for our animals. We grow food in our greenhouses for the animals to eat, as well as maintaining a berry garden for our wildlife rehab patients to forage in. Typical greenthumb duties include watering plants, weeding, planting/transplanting plants, and harvesting food for the animals. Don't think by being a greenthumb you will be away from the animals, our chickens, ducks, and even our pigs will be working alongside you!
Handyperson: Our buildings are constantly needing fixes or updates. Barn animals may chew the boards in the stalls or on the outsides of buildings, we may need leaks to be fixed, rusted hinges replaced, old benches repaired, and much much more. There are never a shortage of handyperson projects!
Administrative Assistant: We need help with a lot of simple tasks such as data entry, internet research, and organizing files. Though you will spend most of your time in the office, there is always the opportunity to step outside and say hi to the animals.
Social Media volunteer: Love social media? Spent your time helping out a good cause. For this position, experience with social media is necessary. Help us expand our audience and share what we do for the animals and the community.
Fundraiser/event planner: Do you enjoy planning events and have experience managing donations? We are looking for volunteers who have experience in event coordination and leadership, program development and management, sponsorship and donation attainment, donor and sponsor prospecting and recruiting, relationship building and management, and community outreach and partnerships. Our small organization would not run without help raising funds for the animals.
Marketing volunteer: We're worth hearing about, and we'd love someone who can help us bring attention to our important mission through television, newspaper and innovative advertising and outreach. The right marketing volunteer will also work and coordinate with our social media manager when needed. We also get asked to attend events and other fun experiences that can benefit West Place, and we could use your help to organize our attendance at these opportunities.
Arts and crafts volunteer: If you are crafty and enjoy creating objects, consider making things for a good cause. We are always in need of homemade items for our gift shop. We are opening an Etsy shop soon and expect to sell more items than we ever have in the past. A good team of craft makers will help us raise funds for the animals. We currently have homemade items ranging from painted portraits of the animals, to a stained glass creation of our logo. Any new ideas for items we can sell are always welcome!
Fencer: We have a lot of pasture fencing that is always in need of repairs. Posts may need to be replaced, beams may need to be repaired, or wire needs replacing. We need someone with experience fixing fences to ensure our fences are secure for the animals.
Painter: Between our pasture fencing and our buildings, we always are in need of painters to help the sanctuary look nice and well kept for tour groups and open houses. Animals may rub against our buildings, wearing paint away and making buildings look run down. Anyone who enjoys painting would be perfect for this position
Stone Wall Helper: Our property is surrounded by a beautiful historic rock wall separating our property from those around us. We are constantly restacking fallen rocks, pulling plants from between the rocks, weed whacking around the walls and other basic maintenance that can take a lot of time.
