Mission Statement
Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina was established in 1982, we are a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 7 counties for over 36 years. We serve a network of more than 260 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through distribution centers in Bladen, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson, and Sampson counties. Sadly, food insecurity remains a serious problem in southeast North Carolina as thousands struggle to access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy life. SHFB takes a strategic, multifaceted approach that provides assistance to those in need in our service area.
Description
At Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina, we work tirelessly to fight hunger one day at a time. We serve seven counties in our state, diligently partnering with over 260 nonprofit organizations to distribute food daily to those in need.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina was founded in 1984, as a program of Action Pathways, Inc.
Currently, SHFB secures, stores, and distributes more than 10 million pounds of food annually. This food is generously donated by major retailers, local wholesalers and warehouses, other food banks, and through food drives held by individuals, businesses, schools, and civic organizations. Additional food, including fresh produce from small, local farms, is purchased for SHFB programs.
We are certified members of Feeding America- a network of 200 food banks across the country - and Feeding the Carolinas.
