Got a passion for sewing? Then we might be looking for you!
We have been offereing sewing classes for immigrant and refugee women for several years now in the West Ridge area of Chicago- working with over 14 different nationalities! We are in need of a friendly, patient, and enthusiastic female Sewing Instructor who can work with adult female students with various levels of basic English proficiency.
Classes will meet once a week and will focus on basic understanding of using a sewing machine. Students should be able to have a basic understanding of: common tools used in sewing, how to meaure and work on patterns, different types of stitches for different functions, cutting different types of fabric, understanding how to alter clothing, button and button hole fabrication, hemming, attaching a zipper, and creating basic garments: long skirt/dresses, as well as potholders, aprons, pillows, etc.
The ideal candidate is well-versed in basic sewing, is able to instruct small classes, has the ability to work with people from various ethnic backgrounds, and has the strong ability to inspire and educate immigrant/refugee women to learn this craft.
Hours are flexible.
This is a volunteer position which can lead to a paid position.

Qualifications:
● Must be at least 18 years of age
● Good understanding of sewing/sewing machines
● Responsible and able to work independently
● Flexibility and ability to adapt to students who are limited in their English
● Friendly/Positive attitude
