Long-term Care Ombudsman - Guadalupe County
ORGANIZATION: Alamo Area Development Corporation
Please visit the new page to apply.
Volunteers are needed to serve as Ombudsmen for local nursing home and assisted living community residents. The goal of the ombudsman program is to ensure the best possible quality of life in Texas long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen also provide information about resident rights and help identify additional resources both in and out of the facility. While in the facility, the volunteer will talk with residents, family members, and guests to identify any complaints or problem. Then, the volunteer will work with those individuals and the staff to resolve these issues. Training is held virtually, and the next session starts after the holidays, at 5:30pm 2 evenings a week for 8.5 weeks. Please help to make a difference in the lives of our residents!

Mission Statement
Our organization is pleased to be a part of the CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative to help people with Medicare get the assistance they may need to benefit from Medicare's new prescription drug coverage. Organizations and volunteers nationwide have come together in the CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative to help people with Medicare understand their options and make an informed, meaningful decision about their prescription drug plan options. The CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative is sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Administration on Aging (AoA), and is committed to building an official corps of volunteers who are available to help people with Medicare in communities nationwide understand, choose and join a Medicare prescription drug plan if they choose.
Description
Our organization is providing free, one-on-one assistance to people with Medicare and their families via telephone and face-to-face sessions, public education presentations and other programs. Through the CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative, volunteers at our organization will be given the opportunity to work directly with people with Medicare to help them understand their prescription drug plan options and join a plan that will best suit their prescription drug needs if they choose.
