PEOI, a provider of university level courses free of charge at www.peoi.org, seeks authors with a background in teaching or work experience, who would like to join a group of colleagues developing a calculus course which was imported from MIT. The text is already in MS221EN on PEOI, as can be viewed on "Courses to read only" part of "Courses and programs" at www.peoi.org. Now a data bank of test questions must be developed for students to take automated tests and earn PEOI's course completion certificate which they can use for transfer credits.
The original course at MIT has over 4,000 questions. Some of these questions can be included in PEOI's test questions data bank if they can be configured as multiple choice questions, and if they can be answered in less than 60 seconds. Questions that can't be answered in 60 seconds can be converted to assignments. PEOI's data banks of test questions contain several parameters which allow to construct automated test that are diverse, do not have duplication, and are different each time a test is taken. Also when a question is not answered correctly, explanations are given, and a link to the course page opens where the underlying concept is presented. This means that volunteers working on this project must have advanced computer skills to understand and deal with questions parameters.
Of course, calculus skills are crucial in this project. First in selecting MIT questions that can be selected for PEOI's test questions. Second, in seeding erroneous answers when constructing a multiple choice question. Third in offering a proof of calculation where needed. And fourth, in creating new test questions.
