Opportunity Tennis Academy is looking for volunteers both on the tennis court and to assist in our educational component. OTA is held on Saturdays from 10am-12pm although volunteers are usually at the courts from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm for set up and clean up. We are affiliated with the USTA and all volunteers must be background checked before working with our program. We offer training on the tennis courts so you don't have to know much about tennis. You just have to like sports and/or education and love children.

About OPPORTUNITY TENNIS ACADEMY

Location:

Mission Statement

Opportunity Tennis Academy's mission is to provide an OPPORTUNITY for children from all neighborhoods to play tennis while developing character traits to compete in LIFE.

Description

Opportunity Tennis Academy provides a weekly and affordable two-hour tennis program which includes tennis lessons and an educational component at Stottlemyer Park in Westland (summer) and the Inkster Recreation Center (winter). Our Academy serves low income communities who do not have the opportunity to play tennis on a consistent basis due to their socioeconomic status, including, but not limited to, a lack of financial resources. Our goal is to provide a program that can serve children ranging from age 4 until 17 and contribute to their development into independent, responsible, and resilient adults.

In addition to our primary goal of opportunity, we have secondary goals of 1) tennis becoming an activity that families can play together outside of our program and 2) introducing a healthy form of exercise that can be played well into a person’s 70s or 80s
