With over 6,000 nonprofit organizations in Maine, SCORE is seeking volunteer nonprofit mentors to help aspiring entrepreneurs with the challenge of starting or growing a nonprofit.

Mainers are known for their community spirit and help-thy-neighbor attitude. We show social consciousness, concern for the environment, commitment to saving historical sights, duty to advocate individual rights, and an urgency to do this all as a personal vocation for a cause. This commitment can lead to a desire to start a nonprofit organization. But is it the right choice?

Starting a nonprofit requires more than passion or devotion. One needs an understanding of financial management, knowledge of legal requirements, managerial skills, community relations, familiarity with issues in the field, friends and supporters, and, more than anything, time, energy, and endless patience.

SCORE Maine seeks experienced nonprofit mentors to help meet the questions and challenges that come from starting a nonprofit.

We know your time is valuable, and you have a variety of skills to share. That’s why we offer total flexibility when it comes to volunteering. Share your nonprofit knowledge as a mentor and work with clients.

Take advantage of easy onboarding.

When you’re ready to start, we’ll give you the tools you need. Between our orientation and mentoring certification program, you’ll learn about SCORE’s mission and services, plus get tips on what makes a good nonprofit volunteer.

There’s no way to quantify how good it feels to help others. Sharing nonprofit knowledge you’ve accrued over the years gives you an extra boost of pride and purpose. And you’ll feel even better knowing you helped someone achieve success.

Share your expertise. Reach out to SCORE Maine and apply today:
