The Empowerment Factory

About Us:
The Empowerment Factory (TEF) is a non-profit dedicated to giving youth the skills they need to lead happier, healthier more empowered lives. We focus on three areas of development: creativity, self-esteem, and civic pride. Our Creative Squad programs blend hands-on activities with social emotional learning (SEL) and environmental education. Our vision is for every child to develop the confidence and ability to express themselves and become successful in school and life. Every child should feel that they matter and can make a difference in the world around them.

Volunteer Description:

The Empowerment Factory is looking for volunteers to hand write personalized cards to seniors in Rhode Island senior centers. The artwork on the cards has been adapted from The Empowerment Factory's Creativity Contest entries, in which RI youth submit their artwork to us to be recognized as Community Heroes and win various prizes. The purpose of this initiative is to uplift the spirits of RI seniors with children's art work and kind words from our volunteers.

It might feel difficult at first to be writing to someone you don’t know. Pretend it’s a conversation! What kinds of things would you want to talk about with a stranger? When writing to an elderly person who doesn't know you, tell them about yourself, maybe share a joke, a riddle or a funny story, talk about the season, and, most important, let them know that they are loved.

Cards can be written at home and dropped off at The Empowerment Factory office at 999 Main St. Studio #707, Pawtucket, RI 02960.

If you are unable to drop off your cards, you may call us at 401-365-1010 to schedule a time for them to be picked up.

Description

About Us:

The Empowerment Factory (TEF) is dedicated to giving children the skills they need to lead happier, healthier lives. We focus on three areas of development: creativity, self-esteem, and civic pride. The Creative Squad programs blend hands-on activities with social emotional learning (SEL) and environmental education. Our vision is for every child to develop the confidence and ability to express themselves, while becoming actively engaged in their communities. Every child should feel that they matter and can make a difference in the world around them.

The Empowerment Factory offers programs and special events for schools, after school, organizations, libraries and youth groups that help children develop the skills they need to succeed.

It was founded by Gail Ahlers, as a nonprofit organization in April of 2014 and became a federally recognized 501(c)3 as of August 2016. Our blended learning model has positively impacted over 3700 urban youth with the creation of 34 after-school clubs and 13 summer programs, 90 percent of whom live in under-served communities.

We welcome your involvement and support. You can give your resources, volunteer your time and advocate as we work together to build a better world.
