When: Saturday Jan 6, 2024 from 11am-4:00pm

Event description:

Help us remove holiday decorations and beautify The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW) after having held successful Holiday Parties and Classes for over 40 Homeless Children in December 2023. To sign-up for this event, please RSVP here : https://bit.ly/BNWDecorate

Volunteers will:

  • Remove Christmas garlands throughout our lobby and hallways.
  • Remove Christmas lights around our lobby, hallways, studios, and theater. Neatly wrap and safely store.
  • Breakdown and remove our 5’ and 10’ Christmas tree
  • Do light cleaning - sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and other surfaces, picking up and disposing of odd-shaped or odd-textured items that cannot be swept or vacuumed. Cleaning products used: Windex, Dirtex, Pine-Sol, Endust/Pledge, Goo Gone, and other similar products with different brand names.
  • Light lifting and climbing on a ladder or step stool is required for much of this work. We have 10’ ceilings and therefore use 6’ - 8’ ladders to hang decorations.
  • Organizing and storing our holiday decorations. This requires moving furniture and boxes to make space for the decorations.

Other possible tasks:

  • For volunteers comfortable using hand saws and tools: breakdown of the tree and small repairs once the decorations have been removed.
  • Organizing on-site equipment and supplies to create space for storing Christmas supplies and donations to use next year. This would include light lifting.
  • Inventorying supplies that are on-site that will be used for future Children’s programs.

Other important info:

  • The day’s events will be videotaped and photographed for our program documentation and communication purposes. Volunteers must be comfortable with this. We will distribute Video Releases to each volunteer when they arrive to review and sign.
  • Participants must dress comfortably: sneakers / flat shoes and clothes they can move around in.
  • Rooms can be crowded with furniture and people during this volunteer event.
  • Due to the popularity of these events, participants who sign-up should arrive PROMPTLY at 11:00am and stay for the whole event, until 4pm. If a volunteer knows in advance of the volunteer date that s/he cannot come or cannot stay for the whole event, we'd appreciate that s/he release their spot as soon as they know to allow someone who wants to stay for the whole event the opportunity to sign-up.
  • Participants with fir or pine tree pollen allergies should take allergy medication before arriving.
  • Participants will be split into smaller groups to complete the overall. Please bring a can-do attitude to complete the work for the day!
