COVID cutbacks are threatening our 60-year old art center, especially at a time when we wereexperiencing growth, expansion and a renewal. Ouch!
But we have a plan. We are looking for volunteers for extended projects, like our outreach team, our online education, city/site specific art, community involvement, development, special projects, etc., who take on well-defined projects and move them to the next level. Communities need the arts, our healing possibilities, the diversion, the inspiration, more than ever so, in the face of a crisis, why not REINVENT and do MORE than is expected?
Spending and our paid staff are drastically cut back and we are still projecting our first budget loss in over 2 years (new management!). We can't afford to pay more than the skeleton staff we currently employ, which is about HALF of what it was 6 months ago. Great challenge, right?
Here's our plan: we've been going through repositioning, will redo our website (overdue!) and create some 'arts active' projects. We want to keep on being the 'hub of the wheel' for creativity on the north shore and that means creating more projects, getting creative with marketing, using all the tools of the arts to thrive instead of just surviving. What skills do we need? Marketing? Administration? Teaching? Project Management? Writing? YES. All of them.
So, if you're willing to be part of a dynamic plan to grow DESPITE the effect of the virus, and do it with a tight budget, and 'buck the trend', we need you.
Once we survive this crisis and are fully back into thriving mode some of these roles might become paid, but it's way too early to make that a promise. It's a big 'maybe'.
We are a home for artistice exploration and creative discovery. Want to be a part of it?
