Migration Resource Center Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) provides low-income taxpayers with free representation before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), assists taxpayers in audits, appeals and collection disputes, and can help taxpayers respond to IRS notices. The taxpayer legal services intern will be responsible for supporting the clinic’s Qualified Tax Expert (QTE) in representing taxpayers and ensuring compliance with LITC program requirements. Primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting client intakes and attending consultations
- Gathering supporting documents from clients
- Maintaining the confidentiality of client records and tax information
- Researching and analyzing federal and state tax laws
- Assisting with calendar management
- Attending LITC community events
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of IRS policies and procedures, including but not limited to audit, appeal, and collection processes
- Researching and drafting blog posts and articles relating to novel tax issues
Qualifications:
- Recent law school graduate or current law student
- Experience with legal research and writing
- Ability to build positive relationships with potential clients and colleagues
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively, yet independently
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and email applications
- Commitment to serving low-income taxpayers
- Able to commit 10-15+ hours/week for 3-4 months

Migration Resource Center was founded in October 2015 to provide a comprehensive range of immigration services, youth education, and legal tax representation. Migration Resource Center was granted 501(c)(3) designation, effective October 8, 2015.
We help individuals, families and businesses get the legal services and information they need to succeed in their communities.
