Note: We are gradually beginning to grant travel wishes again, following the guidelines of our medical advisory board. Volunteers must adhere to all Make-A-Wish and MSP airport COVID-19 policies.

Position Summary:

Be part of the send-off or welcoming for a wish child and their family! Airport Meet and Greeters help families kick off their wish trip on a great and exciting note as well as greet them as they arrive home from a trip. Many families might be traveling for the first time, so navigating the airport can be a daunting and stressful experience. With the help of Meet and Greeters, the wish child and their family won’t have to worry about a thing. No experience needed! We will provide training, which is flexible with your schedule.

As an Airport Meet and Greeter you will:

  • Meet the family at the airport for their departure or arrival.
  • Assist the family with their luggage and/or medical equipment.
  • Guide them through the check-in process and accompany them to their gate (Departures)
  • Request VIP treatment from airline employees during the child’s flight. Examples include meeting the pilot or visiting the cockpit, a special announcement on the plane, or getting bumped up to first class (Departures).
  • Greet families as they arrive home and show them to their limo or hotel shuttle (Arrivals)

How You can Help:

  • Sign up for 3-hour shifts
  • Take part in at least one volunteer activity per year
  • Greet families from early morning to late evening on weekdays or weekends

Description

The Minnesota chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 5,800 wishes to children with critical illnesses across the state since it began in 1982. With help from volunteers in areas of wish granting, fundraising, and administrative support, we make more than 200 wishes come true in Minnesota every year, showing these courageous kids that anything is possible.
