One in three people will battle cancer in their lifetime.  

Thank you for your interest in partnering with the American Cancer Society and the Beach Cities Relay For Life. The American Cancer Society is a voluntary health organization and the 2020 Beach Cities Relay For Life raises funds for cancer research and services those going through cancer treatment. There are many opportunities to promote and network in partnership with the American Cancer Society by sponsorship, forming a team or serving on the Event Leadership Team Committee.

We are looking for volunteers who are proficient in Facebook Live and Zoom to help with our virtual events as well as volunteers who are proficient in social media to help build our following.

ASC is in search of volunteers to sit the Beach Cities Relay For Life ELT Leadership Committee to support the effort to raise funds for cancer research, services and advocacy.

The Beach Cities includes Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach , Manhattan Beach and El Segundo .

ELT Committee Open Positions:

  • Event Chair - Serves as the face and voice of ASC and Relay For Life within the community.
  • Registration Chair: Oversees the registration of teams /participants, collection of participant data, tracking of incentive prizes, and assists Team Captains/participants with the online and offline registration.
  • Food/Hospitality Chair - Sets up secures food donations, prepares and serves meals for the survivors and their caregivers.
  • Luminaria Chair - Promotes awareness /sales of luminaria bags in honor/memory of those touched by cancer.
  • Survivorship & Caregivers Chair - Recruits, recognizes, and engages survivors / caregivers in the community.
  • Sponsorship Chair -Secures financial, in-kind, from new and returning sponsors and thanks them for their support.
  • Fight back/Mission Delivery Chair - Drives the fundraising and mission of ACS and Relay For Life.
  • Marketing Chair - Develops and implement marketing and publicity materials/stories to raise awareness of the Relay For Life event.
  • Entertainment Chair - Implement activities and recruit talent for Virtual and in person events
  • Accounting Chair - collect and verify money; prepare deposits in accordance with all ACS policies and procedures
  • Logistics Chair - Leads all logistics for events, including obtaining permits, sign site contracts, etc.
  • Social Media Chair - Updates website, and post on social media platforms
  • Teams Development Chair & Volunteer Chair - Recruits individuals for teams and support them
  • Communications Chair - Utilize Online and Social Media Timeline to initiate and maintain a year-round campaign that promotes the event and thanks supporters

Here is a little bit of information about Relay For Life:

  • Team Captains recruit members set fundraising goals and organize fundraising activities.
  • Participants raise donations through anything from bake sales to social media posts.
  • Survivors can join an existing team and use their inspiring story to raise funds.
  • Opening Ceremony welcomes everyone to Relay.
  • Survivors take the first celebratory lap, and then caregivers take their turn for recognition for all they do to support their loved ones.
  • Teammates take turns walking the track symbolizing the ongoing fight against cancer.
  • After dark, Luminaria is lit in honor of a life touched by cancer. Luminaria bags are decorated with the names of loved ones and line the track walk.
  • Closing ceremony recognizes event the community’s hard work, and the fact that our fight will keep going until the world is free from cancer!



Luminaria:
Luminaria honors every life touched by cancer. You can dedicate them to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who’s overcome it. We need volunteers to set up and lead the Luminaria ceremony.

Gold Together Team:
Only 4% of cancer research funds go towards studying pediatric cancer annually, and we want to bring awareness to this statistic and support pediatric cancer patients. There's a lot of different ways you can help with this goal! Gold Together is a new Team that must raise $5,000 and whose proceeds 100% go to pediatric cancer research. There is only one Gold Together Team for each Relay. https://www.goldtogether.com/
