Want to make a difference in your community? Volunteer as an Adult Literacy Tutor and help someone reach their literacy goals! The Lincoln Public Library Adult Literacy Program would love to have you!

Tutoring is an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of adults and their families. Whether it is help in reading, writing, math, or even getting a GED, the goal of the Adult Literacy Program is to create an opportunity for individuals to receive one-on-one tutoring.

  • No experience, diploma, or degree necessary. We provide all the training and resources you need.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at an eleventh grade level--if you can read a standard newspaper or magazine, you have the language skills you need.
  • Time commitment is 1-2 hours per week, for at least a six-month period.
  • We'll match you with a learner whose learning style and personality compliment yours
  • Must be 18 years or older and clear a Live Scan (fingerprinting/background check)

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun. We ask that you be hard-working, observant with an attention to detail, and be willing to commit to volunteering on a regular basis.
