Loyola Medicine Hospice is looking for compassionate people who are willing to volunteer for hospice patients and their families. Volunteers offer respite care so the caregivers of the patients can take a break (run errands, go out, worship, exercise, etc.) and/or provide companionship and friendship to the hospice patients themselves (talk, look at photos, play games, watch TV, read, and more).
Patients are most often at their homes but can be at a skilled nursing facility or the hospital (most often Loyola Hospital in Maywood, possibly Gottleib Hospital or MacNeal).
Our volunteers typically see patients once a week (for an hour or two) over the course of one to two months and then take a break for a few months. How often you volunteer is up to you. We work with any schedule.
Some volunteers also do things in the office, where there is always a volunteer need.
Training consists of a few hours of interactive training that can be done at your convenience. Application required (can be emailed). Background check, TB test, and drug screen (paid for by Loyola) required. Must be over 18.
Please call Joanne at 630-8961-5183 for more information or e mail joanne.moore002@luhs.org. Thank you!

Description
For patients experiencing life-limiting illnesses or injuries, Loyola Medicine’s hospice program provides compassionate and comprehensive care to adult and pediatric patients. Hospice care is for patients with terminal illness or injury and intended to provide comfort and relief from pain, allowing for the highest quality of life possible during the time that remains.
Loyola’s skilled doctors, nurses, therapists, chaplains and home health aides provide care that focuses not only on medical issues, but also emotional and spiritual needs. Care is provided in the patient's home, with inpatient care for symptom control and pain management provided at Loyola University Medical Center. Respite care is provided at skilled nursing facilities or at long-term care facilities in the community.
Loyola’s hospice team also provides support for the patient’s family, providing counseling, comfort and guidance on caring for your loved one with dignity. Loyola’s hospice care team is available 24/7.
Loyola’s Home Health Services and Hospice Care is a Medicare-certified, Illinois Department of Public Health-licensed home care and hospice.
