Our Adopt-a-Family program provides new clothes, toys, gift-cards and other gifts to 190 low-income families during the holidays. The holiday season can be an extremely stressful time for our parents or guardians, as many don’t have the means to provide gifts and special meals for their children. Will you make the season bright by providing gifts for a family in need this holiday?

Adopting a Family Is as Easy as 1, 2, 3

Step 1: Signup

Sign up by completing the application form on our website - www.svdh.org/adopt-family-2019 or contacting the Development Team at (510) 832-8324 or development@svdh.org and select the size(s) of the family you wish to "adopt." We will match you with a family and include: first names & genders, age & sizes, and the family's wish list.

Step 2: Purchase gifts

Use the family's wish list to guide your purchases. Please be sure gifts are age appropriate, and as a reminder, do not include violent toys or perishables. If possible, please include wrapping paper and mark gifts with the family name given to you.

Step 3: Deliver (Holiday Cheer!)

We ask that your gifts be delivered at Saint Vincent’s Day Home no later than Tuesday, December 10, 2019. The Day Home is open between 7:00am and 5:30pm to receive your gifts.

Volunteer:

We are seeking volunteers to help sort, package, and itemize gifts and input data for our Adopt-a-Family program. Volunteers will be needed between December 12, 13, 16, and 17 during business hours: M-F 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. We would greatly appreciate any amount of time you are willing to donate. If this interests you, please contact development@svdh.org with the subject line "Adopt-a-Family Volunteer". We look forward to working with you!

The children and families of Saint Vincent's Day Home APPRECIATE YOU!

About Saint Vincent's Day Home

Location:

1086 Eighth Street, Oakland, CA 94607, US

Mission Statement

To provide quality care, early childhood education and family services to those in greatest need, ensuring that children are nurtured and educated and their parents empowered to meet family responsibilities.

Description

Saint Vincent's Day Home is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian agency, that provides a high quality children's program to families with great economic need in the heart of the West Oakland community. Since first opening its doors in 1911, the old Queen Anne Victorian we call Saint Vincent's Day Home has seen well over 36,000 children cross its threshold. Our long history of providing quality care to children and families in need has made us one of the most respected child development centers in the country. The Home has been a beacon of hope for families as they struggled through the Depression, two world wars, and natural disasters. At Saint Vincent's we've held strong to the belief that education is absolutely critical for all children regardless of their families' socio-economical standing.

The children attend the Day Home while their parents work and/or attend accredited school or skills training programs. For many years now, the Day Home has been a source of great relief to those parents by assuring that children who participate in our program will benefit from quality child care which meets their essential health, safety and developmental needs. The majority of our parents are women who struggle at or below the poverty line.
We strive to help young people appreciate diversity by providing a learning environment that emphasizes art, literature, traditions, music, and cuisine from a rich variety of societies from around the world. The Day Home prepares children to succeed academically and socially with a readiness and joy for learning.
