WesleyLife Hospice is looking for active or retired military men and women to volunteer with our patients who are veterans. We are actively working on a Level 5 commitment to the We Honor Veterans program. Making us the leading hospice in central Iowa for veterans care. Our veteran to veteran program aims to provide companionship and recognition to our veterans. We are looking to fill the following volunteer roles:
Companionship visits:Volunteers are essential to hospice and when we can pair veterans together it can enhance the special bond that volunteers form with patients. We encourage weekly visits.
Veteran Pinning Ceremonies:As a part of the "We Honor Veterans" program we hold a special ceremony to thank our veteran patients for their service.
Vet-to-Vet Cafe facilitators: Facilitate a veterans coffee group at a local senior community (monthly or quarterly). No presenting necessary!
Veteran History Project interviewers: Interview other veterans regarding their time in the service. This could be written or recorded audio/video. Story will then be submitted to the Library of Congress for posterity.
A background check, health/drug screen with 2 Step TB test, and hospice training is required.
Interested? You must submit an application at http://bttr.im/m837f . Please contact Diana Ferriss, Volunteer Coordinator, for more information at dferriss@wesleylife.org or 515.229.7366.
