San Jose Museum of Art Seeks Art Docents to Present in Classrooms

San Jose Museum of Art is recruiting for its 2020 Let’s Look at Art docent class.

Let's Look at Art is a volunteer outreach program of the San Jose Museum of Art. Our mission is to provide interactive visual arts education to K-12 students. We strive to educate students in the formal elements of art appreciation while presenting significant artists of historic importance. Learning to appreciate art raises awareness of cultural and ethnic diversity while fostering an environment that builds self-esteem and promotes creativity in the student.

Let’s Look at Art
program is the first exposure many students have to fine art, and it is our goal to make the experience fun and exciting. We encourage students to expand their horizons by participating in the many art education programs that the San Jose Museum of Art has to offer.

We invite you to give back to your community in a meaningful way by becoming a part of the largest arts education program in Santa Clara County. Docents are trained to take portfolio art into K-5 classrooms or digital art into 6-12 classrooms and give FREE presentations that foster communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. We offer a semi-flexible training schedule, presentations that are geographically close to where docents live (thereby solidifying community bonds), and choice as to grade level presentations. We also offer many social opportunities, such as curated trips to other Bay Area museums, art making field trips, guest artists and speakers, occasional weekend art trips, and biannual parties. No previous art experience is required. Let’s Look at Art will serve its millionth student sometime in 2020-21-will YOU be the docent who takes us there?

Training begins in January 2020.

Please contact vol4LLAA@sjmusart.org or go to http://sjmusart.org/lets-look-art-docents to join our next Docent class.
