ORGANIZATION: Fordham University

Are you outgoing, friendly and interested in meeting and mentoring people from different cultures? The Communication Exchange Program provides the opportunity to connect professionals with graduate international business students to help them practice their informal listening and speaking skills and provide them with an opportunity to connect with New York City and American culture.

CXP is perfectly suited for individuals who possess an open mind, are non-judgmental, embrace cultural diversity, have a genuine interest in education and its impact on people's lives, and are enthusiastic about learning from others.

What is the Communication Exchange Program?

The Communication Exchange Program is a program that provides a full-circle immersion in language, communication and culture to international graduate students of the Gabelli School of Business by matching with volunteers. Participants in the program meet virtually or in person with their communication partners once a week through the duration of the academic semester to help them practice their informal listening and speaking skills. Volunteers offer valuable guidance to students on adjusting to life and work in New York and the U.S. in a warm and relaxed environment. They provide essential information while creating a friendly atmosphere.

Who can participate in the Communication Exchange Program?

CXP is open to native English-speaking professionals 25 years old or older who possess a strong command of written and spoken English, are friendly, open to meeting new people, and are respectful of differences in culture and communication styles. Additionally, they should possess the capacity to work autonomously, effectively manage their time, and efficiently coordinate their meeting schedules.

How does the program work?

Each volunteer must commit to meeting with their communication exchange partner for 1 hour per week either remotely or in person depending on their location for the duration of the academic semester (September- Dec 6, 2024)
