NCJW NY needs volunteers for our Reading Tutors Program!

NCJW NY's Children's Literacy Program is unique. Our reading tutors work one-on-one with students on a weekly basis. During each session, tutors and children choose age-appropriate books on topics that spark a child’s interest. NCJW NY provides a wide array of books spanning a range of reading levels on a range of topics from animals to science to history and more. Tutors work with children not only to sound out words but also to explore a character’s emotions or discuss a story’s meaning. Upon completing a book with their tutor, children are able to take the book home for continued enjoyment, building up a sizable home library over the course of the year.Tutors build a trusting relationship with their students, magnifying the effects of the work they do together.

Where: Bronxworks Betances Community Center ( 547 E 146th St, Bronx, NY 10455)
