Seeking volunteers for our overnight weekend camp, Camp Erin (Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17), for children grieving the death of a loved one. Camp Erin, held at Bar-T Mountainside in Urbana, MD, is a bereavement camp offered to children ages 6 through 17 and includes age-appropriate discussions and fun-filled creative experiences designed to help children share their feelings with their peers who are in similar situations. Camp Erin is offered in partnership between CaringMatters and Bar-T, a premier childcare provider. We need adult volunteers who serve in a variety of roles. We especially need volunteers who can serve as a "Big Buddy" to a child who has recently experienced the death of a loved one. A Big Buddy provides caring support to his or her assigned Little Buddy by listening to the child discuss the loss, both in the supervised group sessions and throughout the camp events. All Camp Erin volunteers must go through a one-day training held on Saturday, May 2. Volunteers must be 21 or older. All volunteers must go through a background check.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide social supports and community education so that no one dies or grieves alone. CaringMatters envisions a community that accepts death as a part of life; where the processes of dying and grieving are embraced without stigma; where everyone has access to support services without charge; and where no one dies or grieves without support.
Description
CaringMatters community outreach is provided by a network of trained and screened volunteers and staff who respond to the needs of families facing a terminal illness or grieving the death of a family member or loved one.
We provide personal, compassionate and practical non-medical support to any adult or child during this difficult time. All CaringMatters services are provided to all patients and family members free of charge.
CaringMatters strives to develop and maintain a viable, transparent and responsible non-profit, volunteer-driven organization funded solely by donations and grants from our caring partners.
Other programs offered by CaringMatters include:
Adult bereavement peer-support groups, facilitated by trained volunteers, to adults in Montgomery County who have lost a loved one.
Good grief clubs are offered in Montgomery County Public Schools grades K through 12 for children to receive bereavement support to help cope with life's unfairness.
