Become a Food Pantry Volunteer with the Oceanside Salvation Army!
Position Title: Food Pantry Volunteer
Purpose/Goal of Position: Join our dedicated team at the Oceanside Salvation Army and make a real difference in your community! As a Food Pantry Volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in sorting food, preparing food boxes, and assisting at the distribution desk. Depending on the day and number of help, volunteers might be assigned to help at the desk with distributions or help sort and bag food. Your efforts will help ensure that those in need receive the support they deserve.
Qualifications:
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent customer service skills are a must.
- Compassion: A compassionate attitude towards working with homeless and low-income individuals.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is essential.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds repetitively.
- Bilingual: Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Duties:
- Sort and Pack: Sort and pack perishable and non-perishable items in the food pantry, and discard expired food.
- Assist with Distribution: Help distribute food boxes, clothing, hygiene packs, and pet supplies at the front desk according to clients’ needs.
- Data Entry: Perform data entry tasks as needed.
- Recycling: Disassemble boxes and discard them in the recycling bin.
- Stock and Clean: Assist in cleaning up and stocking the pantry for the next service day.
- Miscellaneous Tasks: Perform other administrative and cleaning duties as needed.
Shifts:
- Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week required.
- Schedule: Fridays, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
