CASA of Travis County promotes and protects the best interest of children who have experienced abuse or neglect by empowering volunteers to advocate for their safety, well-being, and for opportunities to thrive. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety, a judge appoints a trained volunteer advocate to make independent and informed recommendations in the child’s best interest.
Early Family Engagement (EFE) Volunteers focus on ensuring that children remain connected to their families from the earliest stage of a CPS case. This fast-paced role conducts initial visits and assessments with children, their caregivers, their parents, and other relatives, to represent CASA at the first case hearing. Each case assignment lasts approximately 1 to 2 weeks and volunteers are asked to commit to take a minimum of 6 cases per year. This offers the flexibility to take a short-term case assignment at times when your schedule allows.
Volunteers come from every walk of life and share a commitment to improving children’s lives, a willingness to learn, and an open mind towards life experiences different from their own. EFE Volunteers complete an interview, background checks and a 41.5-hour hybrid (Virtual/In-person) training program, and are then sworn into their roles by a judge and assigned to a child or family of children. CASA is not your typical volunteer opportunity... but we’re not looking for typical volunteers!
* We have a huge need for bi-lingual Spanish/English speakers and we offer special roles that require less commitment for people who speak Spanish, Please reach out for more information.

Mission Statement
CASA of Travis County exists to promote and protect the best interest of children who have been abused or neglected, by training volunteers to advocate for them in courts, in schools and in our community to help them find safe, permanent and loving homes.
Description
CASA of Travis County believes every child who’s been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, CASA educates and empowers diverse community volunteers who ensure each child’s needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what’s best for the child.
For children who’ve been abused or neglected, CASA means having a home instead of feeling lost, and being a priority instead of feeling invisible. For volunteers, CASA is a life-changing experience that makes our community a better place.
