Reading for Peace uses specifically selected children's books to teach peace making skills to elementary age students. Volunteers meet to brainstorm ideas and create options to reach children, teachers and families in a variety of Denver metro area schools. Books are selected to reinforce skills for problem solving, friendship, feelings, empathy and kindness. Reading for Peace is currently being provided in-person at schools and has also been adapted for on-line and distance options. Volunteers are needed to go out to read and discuss books with children and assist with creating materials, Zoom programming, and to choose books that best meet the needs of students and to make these options available to schools and families.
