PyRescue is looking for a few volunteers to sign up for regular volunteering at the kennels. We would need a specific day of the week that you could come out and help the rescue clean up kennels, brush dogs, help give medications, fill water buckets, yes....pick up poop, drive a dog to a vet or grooming appointment or even take a Pyr for a walk.
Great Pyrenees are very sweet and sensitive dogs but can be very large and intimidating. We do not always know what a dog has been through and we do not always assume it has been hurt or abused. We get most of our Pyr's from owner surrenders or kill shelters where they have been surrendered or found as a stay. Most are very protective of their food and some are even underweight. Most of the Pyrenees that come in are in need of a good bath, rake & brushing, nails trimmed and ears cleaned. We would never put you in a dangerous situation but we also would expect that you would listen carefully to our instructions and respect the dogs while you are here.
PyRescue is looking for people that are confident, strong and are willing to understand how a Pyr thinks. In the winter we need help cleaning up the 5 acres the Pyrenees have access and shoving the snow on the sidewalks and courtyard in the kennels. Summertime brings different chores like landscaping, cleaning and refilling doggy pools and keeping up the property. Knowing how to use a mower, weed eater, and pulling weeds would be great.
We would love to have people that can take some of the Pyr's on walks if the dogs are leash trained if not helping them to feel comfortable wearing a leash or collar would be great as well. We do have some senior Pyrs that would love a person to come and read to them while they rest in their kennel or sometimes we have puppies that could use some playtime.
There are many different aspects to running a rescue and its not always physical labor, sometimes it can be taking videos and pictures of the dogs so we can post them to our online website. There is also data entry of vetting records, social media that needs to be updated and checked multiple times per day. Emails that need to be answered, bio's updated on current dogs and behavioral traits noted.
We are always looking for a good grant writer and someone to help find sponsors for each dog. We are a 501c3 nonprofit which means we do not get paychecks, we are fully run by volunteers and always need help keeping up with our mounting vet bills. Having a person that is not afraid to reach out to supportive corporations that would like to donate, sponsor, or help support us would also be amazing.
If any of this sounds interesting and you think you would like to donate some of your time to helping a dog rescue we would love to have you onboard!

Mission Statement
Mission Statement: To provide a secure and stable environment for homeless and neglected Great Pyrenees while tending to the emotional, medical, and nutritional needs. Each Pyrenees is given unconditional love and respect while they are prepared for adoption for the appropriate family.
Description
The Great Pyrenees Rescue and Sanctuary has been rehabilitating and re-homing Pyr's since 1994. In the last couple years we have increased our intake numbers enormously and are in need of some help with the care of the Pyr's and our newly built kennels. We are on 5 acres and have 16 large kennels where we can hold up to 32 dogs comfortably. We are looking for help in the cleaning of the kennels, the dog run area and of course TLC for our awaiting Pyrs. Ideally we would like volunteers to be of age, have their own transportation and some experience with giant breed dogs, but the last part is not a requirement. We also need fresh videos and pictures of our facilities and dogs so adopters can see where and how we care for our current dogs. We look forward to meeting and learning about you so please feel free to ask us anything.
