March 14th, 2024
This international "geek" holiday was founded in 1988 by Exploratorium’s physicist and Prince of Pi Larry Shaw. Mathematical pi and puns thereof are the toasts of the day. Go forth and immerse yourself in the quirky, ritualistic festivities and antics - lovingly prepared from scratch - by Exploratorium staff and collaborators. Join other enthusiastic museum visitors in Pi Day songs, bead a pi string, march around the museum, and eat food symbolic of this special number (an apple or pizza pie).
Tasks - Setup and Takedown of tables, chairs, canopies, posters, av equip, etc. Assist w parade facilitation, hands-on activities, pizza dough tossing. Slice/plate/serve pies. Crowd control. Helping disabled visitors.
Special Consideration - The program is completely outdoors. Casual wear & sturdy comfortable shoes (check weather - may need to dress in layers for rain/wind).
Vols may need to lift things up to 20lbs, with assistance

Mission Statement
Inquisitive Minds Volunteer! The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art, and human perception founded in 1969 by Frank Oppenheimer. The Exploratorium's mission is to create a culture of learning through innovative environments, programs, and tools that help people nurture their curiosity about the world around them.
Description
Moving to Piers 15 and 17, the Exploratorium is a collage of 650 interactive exhibits in the areas of science, art, and human perception. The Exploratorium stands in the vanguard of the movement of the museum as educational center and provides access to, and information about, science, nature, art and technology. The Exploratorium Volunteer Program strives to support the mission and goals of the Exploratorium to the fullest extent. We are committed to providing high quality, well-trained, and dedicated service to both museum visitors and staff; to developing a wide range of opportunities for a diverse community of supporters; and including volunteers as much as possible in the Exploratorium's unique learning environment. Prospective volunteers should be at least 15 years old, and will be invited for an interview if there appears to be a good match between the museum's needs, and the prospective volunteer's skills, interests, and availability.
