With 640 acres and uniquely situated at the outlet of Lake Sammamish into the Sammamish River, Marymoor Park has over seven different habitat types and is a great place for birds and other wildlife. Since 2006, the Eastside Audubon Society has partnered with King County to act as steward for over 40 acres of natural areas in the park, known as the Bird Loop Natural Area. Every month, we work to restore habitat by removing invasive species, planting native species, and mulching the native plants to give them a good start. If getting outside and doing a little physical labor to help the environment is what you look for in a volunteer opportunity, then this event is a good fit! (Plus, sometimes we see some pretty cool birds).
We meet in Parking Lot G at 9am. When you arrive, please come to the table to sign-in, receive a free parking pass, and get a quick volunteer orientation before starting work. Tools and gloves will be provided - but feel free to bring your own pair of work gloves if you prefer. Please wear clothing that can get dirty and hold up to physical labor such as thick pants and a long-sleeve shirt. Closed-toed shoes are essential. The event will take place rain or shine so dress for the weather. Please bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated and help us stay sustainable. We also provide hot water for tea / coffee, and ask that you bring your own mug to help us be sustainable.
The event goes until 12pm. We break at about 11:45am to put away tools and sign out. At this time, we can also sign any paperwork if you need to track hours. If you need to leave early, just let us know so we can sign you out.
To sign up for this event, please click on the "I want to help" button. A window will pop up titled "Express Interest in this Opportunity." It gives you the option to send us a message, but if you have any questions or comments it's better to contact us directly at marymoor@eastsideaudubon.org. Click the "send" button and you will receive an email with a link to the event sign-up form.
