Volunteers, age 17 and above, are needed to assist answer phones, pre-screen requests for help, and schedule appointments for, low income, working, individuals/families who need short term rent or rental deposit assistance, transportation vouchers, utility assistance or other aid required to stay housed. Volunteers may also assist persons desiring aid to complete necessary applications. Volunteers set their own hours though desired commitment is 2 to 4 hours per week on an ongoing, regular, basis. Midtown is open 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Knowledge of a second language would be helpful but is not required.

Mission Statement

Midtown Family Services' mission is to assist individuals and families who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, become self-sufficient in housing and interdependent domains through timely and evidence-based interventions.

Description

Midtown Family Services provides support for low-income individuals/families living in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: Financial counseling and navigation services for low income, working, members of the community with basic needs; and reentry of individuals back into the community after incarceration in state prison.
