We are looking volunteers for IT instructors, college students, teachers, IT enthusiasts, and professionals, and to assist our instructors in teaching IT classes at after school programs, recreation centers, library's and churches.
Instructors will teach students (K-12) introductory computing principles in person and occasionally via Google Hangouts/Classroom using PowerPoint presentations, online-videos, hands-on exercises and group activities that encourage class participation. As an instructor, you will work with beginner to advanced-level students from third grade through high school. The topics to be covered will include introducing students to computer building, gaming PCs, troubleshooting, coding, programming. In addition, you should be prepared to teach students about internet etiquette and safety and discuss "soft skills" required for success in the workplace, providing them with the stepping stones to pursue careers in IT . We will offer students who have never opened or touched the inside of a computer the opportunity to troubleshoot and repair computers, and learn networking, programming and project management, enabling them to pursue careers in information Technology (IT) and the computer industry, without leaving their neighborhood.
Instructors - Hardware, Desktop Support, Gaming, A+/Network, IC3 & IC4: instructors will teach students to disassemble and reassemble desktop computers and laptops as well as to repair and replace hardware. Also, students will learn techniques to troubleshoot PCs, how to speed up computers, back up data, and understand how to remove and prevent malware. Students will also be challenged at their appropriate skill levels both verbally and by participating in hands-on learning exercises. In our advanced programs Instructors will assist students in learning to build, refurbish, configure and install software on their very own Dell Computers. Students will use the computers during the program. At the conclusion of the class, students will take home the computers they build in keeping with Wiz Kids’ motto of "you build it, you keep it."
Instructors, Coding/Programming Languages & Android and Apple App Development Instructors will teach students basic concepts and skills required in programming and coding. Also, students will learn introductory programming concepts that will allow them to engage in free-form coding to create their own coding projects and understand mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms. Instructors will teach students the fundamentals of coding by introducing them to languages including HTML, JavaScript, Python C, and C++ through youth-oriented programming featuring a series of web and app projects. Also, students will be introduced to tools including Scratch, Tynker, and Code.org which will serve as entry points for learning how to program. As an instructor, you will use these interactive programs to teach students the basics and provide them with a solid foundation in languages that will prepare them to start building their own projects and apps and allow them to more easily comprehend popular coding programs used in the industry.
After students master the basic concepts outlined above, the instructor will teach students how to program using logic and storytelling, as well as how to manage technical projects. At the end of this class, student teams will present their app ideas and designs.
Senior Citizen IT Instructors - Seniors will learn about all aspects of computers, from basic keyboarding to assembling and disassembling computers. In addition, they will learn how to back up their computer data to the CLOUD, troubleshoot common problems and how to safely surf the internet. Our six-session course will introduce them to creating email accounts and setting up profiles on social media sites. Seniors will gain knowledge on how to reach out to their grandchildren and other relatives by email and instant messaging. They’ll understand how to create security settings on who can contact them or choose who they’ll accept as friends on Facebook and other social media sites.
