Mission Statement

Young Inklings have stories to tell. You might have stories pouring out of you so fast that you don’t know what to do with them all. Or perhaps you’re just starting out on your writing journey. Either way, the big ideas in your heart and head matter. Our community of creators provides writer-to-writer connections and support to help you develop your craft.

Description

Society of Young Inklings is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth writers, ages 8-18. "When I was young and filling notebooks with stories, I wanted someone to take my dreams seriously," says Naomi Kinsman, Founder and Executive Director. "Now, I have the privilege of granting wishes like my own by pairing youth writers with professionals who provide artistic mentorship and with our publishing team who deliver real-world publishing opportunities."

We launched our programs in 2008 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through our work (and play!) with thousands of students and educators, we developed and refined Writerly Play, our game-based approach to the creative process. Our community has stretched world-wide, and we now offer online mentorships, writers’ circles, and courses, so no matter where you live, we’re in your neighborhood.
