Job Title: Arts and Crafts Volunteer for Seniors

Reports To: Deborah Reynolds

Schedule: Mondays thru Thursdays, for ~1.5 hour select time between 10:00am-11:30am (1 volunteer needed each week) / Can be a one and done opportunity or ongoing basis.

Position Overview: The Arts and Crafts Volunteer will assist in leading creative activities for seniors, helping to foster self-expression, social interaction, and cognitive engagement. This role is essential for providing a supportive and enjoyable environment for participants to explore their artistic abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Activity Planning and Setup:
    • Assist in planning and organizing arts and crafts projects suitable for seniors, considering varying skill levels and interests.
    • Set up materials and equipment prior to sessions, ensuring a welcoming and accessible workspace.
  • Instruction and Support:
    • Provide guidance and support to seniors during arts and crafts activities, helping with techniques and materials as needed.
    • Encourage creativity and personal expression, celebrating each participant’s unique contributions.
  • Social Engagement:
    • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages social interaction among participants.
    • Facilitate conversations and connections while participating in craft activities.
  • Cleanup and Organization:
    • Help clean up and organize materials after each session, ensuring that the workspace is tidy and prepared for future activities.
  • Feedback and Communication:
    • Communicate with the Senior Center Manager regarding participant feedback and suggestions for future projects.
    • Assist in promoting upcoming arts and crafts sessions to encourage participation.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for arts and crafts, with experience in various techniques (e.g., painting, knitting, paper crafts).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and patient demeanor.
  • Ability to work with seniors and understand their unique needs and abilities.

Working Conditions

May be required to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

Please be aware this role requires indoor activity and is working with seniors (55+ years old)

Appropriate Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes (not sandals, heels, flipflops). Shirts should be short or long-sleeved (no spaghetti straps, strapless, sleeveless, mid-riff showing or tank top types). Shorts/dresses/skirts should be longer in length, appropriate for comfortably bending and reaching items.

Required:

· Age Requirements: 18 or older. You must be confirmed to participate. No walk-ins.

· Register as volunteer for Arts and Crafts at the Senior Center

· Complete onboarding paperwork

· Attend Volunteer Orientation

· Volunteers going over 20 hours must complete a Background Check
