AccentCare Hospice is looking for companion volunteers to sit with our patients throughout Pinellas County! Chances are we have a patient near where you live.
What does a companion volunteer do?
Companion volunteers spend one-on-one time with our patients/families in their home, nursing home, or assisted living facility.
Think of a Companion Volunteer Visit as a visit from a friend. Our Companion Volunteers enjoy seeing our Patients because they hear interesting stories and viewpoints, share in laughter and other meaningful moments! Volunteers may spend an hour reading to their patient (because they no longer have the ability to see the pages), they may paint or do crafts, play games, watch movies, or partake in conversation with their patient. Not required, but Companion Volunteers can also offer Caregiver Relief visits with a Patient while a caregiver runs errands or takes a nap; to provide peace of mind & self-care.
Volunteers could also assist with our Legacy projects. Legacy projects are a way we assist the patient/ family capture memories, stories, sentiments, and traditions. This could be done in the form of cards, interviews, thumb-print jewelry, hand molds (of our patients), memory pillows/bears, ETC.
