The Baltimore Jazz Alliance needs technical help. Most of our technical work is currently handled by one board member/volunteer, and it is there is a lot to be done. While the BJA does many things, we are heavily reliant on our website, our email management, and our calendar functionality. We currently run a virtual server on Digital Ocean, and manage much of the stack ourselves. We also rely on services such as Elastic Email, POBox, Google Analytics, Wordpress, and more. To be specific, we really need help with any and all of the following:
- Programming - Ruby on Rails, also PHP
- Server admin - Ubuntu, Apache, Nginx, Unicorn, Postfix, MySQL, SSL
- Domain admin - DNS, SMTP, .htaccess, robots.txt
- Configuration/content management - Wordpress, including integration with forms, social media, etc.
- Graphic design
- Video production
If you have any of these skills (certainly don't need to have all!) and want to contribute to the Baltimore jazz community, please get in touch. We need you!

Mission Statement
The Baltimore Jazz Alliance promotes and supports jazz in the Baltimore region for the benefit of both artists and audiences by presenting, educating, collaborating, and informing, to foster the rich legacy of jazz in our community.
Description
The Baltimore Jazz Alliance (BJA) was founded in 2003 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2012, with the mission "To better serve artists and audiences by elevating the role of jazz in the Baltimore region." Our goals included increasing visibility of existing opportunities to hear live jazz in the Baltimore area; increasing opportunities for jazz musicians to perform in the area; promoting local musicians and venues through print and digital media; and promoting jazz education for Baltimore’s next generation. Comprised of musicians, presenters, and listeners, the board and membership of the BJA share a common mission to help the Baltimore jazz scene thrive - here are a few ways we have served this mission over the years:
- Newsletter
- Web site
- Weekly event calendar email
- Baltimore Jazz Fest
- Baltimore Jazz Conference
- Baltimore Jazz Composers Showcase
- Youth Jazz Congress
- BJA Big Band
- Jazz for Kids
- Musical Instrument Petting Zoo
- 3 CDs
The Baltimore Jazz Alliance continues to serve the local jazz community through all those and many other efforts.
