Commitment: Second Saturdays, September 2024 - June 2025 (Dates listed below)
Time: 10am-1pm

Position Overview:

The Chrysalis Program is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to volunteer as SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) and Life Skill Instructors. Volunteers will share our core values, collaborate with our team to develop fun and interactive curricula, and lead workshops for children aged 5-16 (grouped by learning ability). The workshops are designed to engage, excite, and educate our participants while ensuring the messages are understood and retained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Work with our team to create engaging and interactive SEL and life skills curriculum.
  • Workshop Facilitation: Lead workshops for children, maintaining a balance of excitement and discipline to ensure effective learning.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other instructors and staff to enhance the overall educational experience.
  • Participant Engagement: Relate to and inspire children to actively participate and learn.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Education: A strong desire to contribute to the personal growth and development of children.
  • Effective Communicator: Ability to convey ideas clearly and adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
  • Relatable and Engaging: Able to connect with children and maintain their interest throughout the sessions.
  • Stern yet Supportive: Capable of setting clear boundaries while offering a supportive learning environment.

Description

The Chrysalis Program seeks to reduce or eliminate the effects of childhood trauma for African American girls and their families on Chicago's South Side and beyond.

The Chrysalis Program creates safe spaces for girls to heal, learn and grow by offering Wellness Workshops, Counseling, Life Skill Classes, Creative Arts Lessons, Parent Classes, Enrichment Field Trips, Mentorship and Community Events.

​The Chrysalis Program is unique because it takes a holistic approach to empowering; teaching both life skills and coping skills that gradually improves the quality of life for participants and their families.
