Following the July 2009 arrest of Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates, on the front porch of his own home by Cambridge Police Sergeant, James Crowley, President Obama invited the two men to the White House for a meeting over beer to discuss the incident. This year marks the seventh anniversary of Obama's "Beer Summit." At the same time in Philadelphia, Global Citizen held its own Beer Summit in Center City for concerned citizens to meet, mingle, and discuss race relations in both our city and throughout America. On Monday, July 30, we will continue our discussion at Reading Terminal Market about race, class and power and how we all can overcome the barriers that have continued to divide so many. Volunteers are wanted to help staff the event, such as assisting with set-up, break-down, and helping with registration. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us.
