About Us

• The 88 Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in the United States. Founded in 2012, The 88 Project supports and encourages freedom of expression in Vietnam by sharing the stories of and advocating for Vietnamese activists who are persecuted because of their peaceful dissent.
• We maintain several types of tools that international governments and advocates use to press for reform in Vietnam and the release of political prisoners, including: our searchable Vietnamese Political Prisoner Database, a weekly newsletter, our website/blog, short videos and interviews with activists, and our social media platforms.

Qualifications for Board Members

• Interested in the promotion of the universal human rights to freedom of expression and assembly
• Willingness to learn about new subject matter and advocate for peaceful human rights defenders
• Knowledge of Southeast Asia, gender equality, fundraising, and/or previous nonprofit experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Regularly attends board meetings and related meetings (i.e. sub-committees) via virtual platforms
• Stays current on The 88 Project’s work plan and projects
• Networks with outside contacts to leverage resources for The 88 Project
• Advocates publically for the advancement of the mission of The 88 Project
• Reviews and approves financial plans, and proposed and ongoing projects
• Participates in the overall evaluation and strategic planning of The 88 Project
• Participates in fundraising campaigns (i.e. Giving Tuesday), when applicable
• Maintains confidentiality and secures datas for all matters involving The 88 Project’s work products and communications
