Volunteer for Street Engagement Team: Engage at-risk young people on the streets, parks, spiritual meeting places, and common areas in the community. Refer community resources to young people from our pool of resources that may lead them to greater opportunities. Connect to the greater community in an effort to bring more people around to the S.E.T.'s point of view. Mentor young people in areas such as school, personal matters and in some cases spiritual growth.
Team members create a positive presence in the community by forming groups that are visibly present at high traffic areas, like schools, parks, libraries, gyms, public transportation stations and more. Teams tour neighborhoods and engage residents and provide resources and information vital to the success of the families.
At the community level, we believe that the S.E.T. will make a positive difference in people’s lives, by:
- Strengthening the "adult safety net" for youth;
- Helping residents get and stay involved in the daily experiences and choices of the community;
- Changing attitudes towards violence prevention among parents, local residents and caregivers; and
- Increasing awareness of the local programs and services promoted by S.E.T.
Team members will attend monthly planning sessions for Violence Prevention Consortium (VPC). Develop and initiate community service initiatives designed to reduce violence in the community.
