A Midway Costumed Interpreter serves as the schoolteacher (Marm or Master) for a pioneer school day in the Midway Schoolhouse. Midway Costumed Interpreters lead elementary aged students through a period correct school day via existing curriculum for both lessons and recess.

Requirements:

* The ability to set up the classroom prior to the arrival of students and return classroom to exhibit status after the school day is complete if necessary.

* Must be comfortable creating a persona and portraying this character throughout the entire shift, flexible to the changing needs of a group, and responsible for the purchase or making of period-correct costumes.

* Be prepared to use classroom management skills throughout the entire shift.

* Have general knowledge of or be open to learning the history of pioneer schools from the late 1800s a with focus on the early schools of the Peninsula.

* Shifts range from 9:30 am-2:30 pm Wednesdays - Fridays.

Our mission is to create opportunities to experience the history of the Gig Harbor Peninsula. We do this by collecting, preserving and sharing this area's history. Our vision is to be the cornerstone providing a sense of identity for our community.

Description

We provide our community and visitors with a journey through the history of the Gig Harbor Peninsula. The museum contains: permanent exhibit galleries, a Special Exhibitions Gallery with 4-5 changing exhibits each year, a restored 1893 one-room schoolhouse, a 65-foot purse seine fishing vessel, and the first Thunderbird sailboat ever built. The museum has a resource room and gift shop. A dedicated collections storage area provides safe and secure permanent storage for our permanent collection.
