The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. Our vision is that people with pancreatic cancer will live longer and lead healthier lives. We have a milestone of doubling survival by 2020.

What does a Social Media Administrator do?

The Social Media Administrator works with the Affiliate’s Media Relations Chair (MRC), and the Digital Communications Specialist at the National Office to create awareness about pancreatic cancer, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and Affiliate activities in the local community through social media outreach. This includes:

  • Managing the Affiliate’s local social media accounts and messaging
  • Collecting local stories from both the community and volunteers to be highlighted throughout the year on social media
  • Working with the National Office to gain exposure in the community through social media platforms for local awareness events and campaigns
  • Post updates throughout each week that promote local events, keep social media platforms active and engaging for fans/followers.
  • Monitor social media sites for questions and/or spam, and respond to inquiries from the general public in a 24-hour time frame
  • Act as liaison between the Affiliate/organization and supporters on social media, including being prepared with current organizational messages, facts and statistics as well as acting as an direct source of information when necessary
  • Promote the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network brand in all communications and affiliate activities according to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Style Guide
  • Attend affiliate meetings and other local events
  • Participate in periodic conference calls/webinar trainings with Headquarters staff

Here’s what it takes to be a successful Social Media Administrator. Could this be you?

  • A friendly, positive, solution-oriented, professional demeanor with the ability to build and sustain strong relationships
  • A commitment to partnering with the rest of the core team, including but not limited to attending Affiliate meetings, core team workshops and conference calls
  • Experience with social media, public relations, journalism, advertising or marketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presence
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from constituents in 24 hours, as well as the National Office within 48 hours
  • Leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage other volunteers and gain local buy-in to initiatives and goals; supervisory experience a plus
  • Access to a computer and the internet, as well as proficient computer skills
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and ability to respond to posts in a timely manner
  • A minimum of 2-4 hours per week for volunteer work
