Every Monday afternoon 4-6pm (check if it is a holidays), help care for and plant a native Hawaiian forest on the watershed of Hamakua Marsh. Learn about the plants, observe the native wetland birds as you remove invasive species and other tasks. No experience required. The locked gate to the Wildlife Sanctuary will be open, and parking is available inside. Gloves and tools are provided. Volunteers must bring a water bottle and covered shoes. Sun protection and long sleeves recommended. All ages are welcome but under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and under 18 years of age must have a parent sign their waiver.

Community education and action in Hawaii to fight climate change

Description

HCC has been planting and caring for a native forest on the watershed of Hāmākua Marsh in Kailua since 2015 with schools and other community groups. In addition to trees, we planted several endangered and rare native plants at our site, which is home to 3 species of endanged native birds. We also do teacher training and in-school workshops to educate on climate change.
