Chapter Leader Job Description
A Chapter (which is generally a town or city, or two neighboring small towns) is managed by 1-3 individuals called Chapter Leaders. Chapter Leaders are volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to make their towns stronger and are the heart of Neighbor Brigade. Chapter Leaders manage the volunteers in their specific town and are often the first point of contact for a client who is in need of receiving our services. A Chapter Leader is someone who can dedicate 1-5 hours a week on average managing their Chapter. The rate of activity in a Chapter can often depend on the size of the town, the time of year, other available resources in that town, and the outreach efforts that have been made in that community to publicize Neighbor Brigade. A Chapter Leader is not an employee of Neighbor Brigade and is not compensated monetarily.
Chapter Leaders are responsible for raising awareness about Neighbor Brigade in their community. Schools, medical facilities, police and fire departments, farmer’s markets, senior centers, and newcomer’s clubs are examples of great places to distribute Neighbor Brigade Rack Cards. Chapter Leaders are also administrators of our software managed by the company Better Impact. As an administrator, Chapter Leaders will learn how to input basic information into our software system. Chapter Leaders set-up tasks in the software so that volunteers can sign-up, they contact new clients who reach out to Neighbor Brigade in their chapter, they welcome new volunteers, and facilitate communication between clients and volunteers. The software is not complicated and we have a variety of levels of support to aid you in learning the basic tasks.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our efforts are focused primarily on partnering with community wide efforts to assure that all residents have access to essential food and supplies. Our volunteers can participate in delivering food from food pantries and schools, help with grocery shopping for immunocompromised residents, do pharmacy runs, and help provide ride shares (Lyft and Uber) to critical appointments.
The Chapter Leader position is extremely rewarding and is a wonderful way to give back to your community. If you have ever given or been the recipient of meals, rides and general help during your time of need, you know how extremely valuable this service is and what a wonderful way to pay it forward. We look for Chapter Leaders that can ideally make a 2 year commitment to this position. If you are interested in becoming a Chapter Leader in your town, please contact Polly Mendoza at info@neighborbrigade.org and she will set-up a time to speak with you about the rewarding role.
