Volunteers are needed to teach Spanish. Our classes and programs are offered both online and onsite.
There is some flexibility with time commitment depending on the experience of the volunteer as well as their individual schedule. Some of our experienced teachers take a lead teaching role in one or more classes; others co-teach; some prefer to assist the lead teacher.
While we have volunteers who work with us more than one day a week, we ask for a minimum time commitment of 2.5 hours during a single evening.
Prior teaching experience is a plus. But for those in the process of obtaining certification, or for others without formal training but who are passionate about helping teach Spanish, we're happy to work with you! Our Spanish department staff teams up less experienced teachers with the more experienced ones.
We also have a variety of conversation classes which are staffed in part by facilitators, as well as one-on-one tutoring. No formal teaching background is necessary for some of these positions. We provide training for facilitators and tutors.
Together One New York is a non-profit organization whose volunteers are passionate about providing vital resources to immigrants, as well adult education programs for all members of the NYC community. In addition to Spanish classes, other programs available include a full ESL program, citizenship, TASC (high school equivalency) exam prep, and English conversation classes. With your help, we can expand our outreach and increase the number of immigrants served.
Almost half of the immigrants our programs support are native Spanish-speakers. By helping New Yorkers learn Spanish you're helping build stronger connections with the immigrant community. Thank you for considering us!
