VOLUNTEER WITH THE MCMINNVILLE AREA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (AKA MACHABITAT)

Position Title: ReStore Receiving Room Volunteer

Purpose: Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. Receiving Volunteers assist in the receipt, organization, cleaning, pricing, and placement of donations, which has a direct impact on sales made in the ReStore. ReStore sales provide funds to help our MacHabitat families build their homes.

Location: MacHabitat ReStore, 1040 SE 1 st St, McMinnville, OR 97128

Position Summary: Volunteer will work in our receiving room; greeting donors and helping them unload donations approved by the supervisor. Volunteer will also clean and price new items, then place them appropriately in the ReStore. Finally, Receiving Volunteers will help organize the receiving room to make room for new donations.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to interact with donors in a professional manner, willingness to work outdoors and in a building with no temperature controls, willingness to learn pricing and cleaning methods, ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, willingness to maintain a positive attitude, and must have excellent organizational skills. Ability to lift heavy items is a plus. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old.

Time Commitment: Availability any time between 9am-3pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Hours will be agreed upon with the Volunteer & Program Coordinator and the volunteer’s supervisor to track hours, but the days and hours can be flexible.

Training Offered: Receiving Volunteers will be trained in how to accept, clean and price items. They will also learn how to display items in the ReStore.

Benefits: Great work experience, supporting ReStore’s mission to raise funds to help families build their new homes, references for future employers, meet new friends and community members.

Working Conditions: Building does not have temperature control. Staff and volunteers meet donors outside in the parking lot to accept donations, then bring them into a partially enclosed warehouse. There are many sharp and heavy objects in the receiving room.
