Become a Berkeley Builds Readers Volunteer Story Reader!
Do you love reading to kids and want to foster a life-long love of reading in children? Berkeley Builds Readers offers a unique volunteer opportunity: to read aloud to children at preschools throughout Berkeley. Volunteers present a monthly 20-minute story visit to children ages 2-5. The goal of our program is to support Early Literacy and extend the reach of the Berkeley Public Library including Berkeley READS, the adult and family literacy program, introducing children and their parents to the pleasure of stories and creating excitement about books and reading.
The free training dates and locations TBD. There are five mandatory sessions. In these sessions, participants learn how to select and share wonderful books and present engaging story visits. Training takes place at the *West Branch (Berkeley READS Adult Literacy office) and **Central Library (4 th floor Children’s Story Room) of the Berkeley Public Library. Pre-registration is necessary to attend, and a 6 month commitment is required to become a story visit volunteer.
