Contra Costa County History Center, Martinez

We are always looking for a friendly, engaging person to greet the visitors at the History Center! The Greeter/Front Desk volunteer position greets and registers our guests, answers phones, and describes the function of the History Center. Additionally, this position may assist the Director, as needed.

It is helpful to have previous office experience for this position although it is not required. There is terrific opportunity to gain skills and learn about County history!

We kindly request a monthly commitment of regularly scheduled three-hour shifts, or a set schedule during a specific time period with start/end dates. The History Center is open:
Tuesday - Thursday 9am - 4pm
1st & 3rd Saturday 10am - 2pm

The mission of the Contra Costa County Historical Society is to preserve, protect, and provide public access to the records and heritage of Contra Costa County, CA.

Description

The Contra Costa County Historical Society was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit educational
organization in 1951 and incorporated in 1972 for the purpose of discovering, preserving, and sharing
knowledge about the history of Contra Costa County. Since 1980, the Society has maintained the Contra CostamCounty History Center for public access and use of its marvelous archive of historical records of people andevents in the county. The History Center archives contain a vast number of unique historical records thatpreserve and document Contra Costa's history, with documents from the 1830s onward. In addition, the Superior Court has designated the Society the repository of its official historical court records.
