Imagine how hard life would be if you could not:
Introduce Yourself,
Read Grocery Labels or ask where something is,
Fill out a Job Application,
Navigate a phone call from your child’s school,
Speak English in an emergency situation, or,
Pronounce words comfortably.
For many of our students, this is a daily reality.
Literacy Connections has been in the non-profit business of helping people to read, write and reach their potential for over 40 years. We have a robust ESL Program in Dutchess County that services over 200 students and helps them with their short-term and long-term goals. Our immigrant students are from all over the world and come to us with a variety of educational experiences; some may have specialized Degrees in a highly complex field . . . others may have only attended 3 years of school. But the goal is the same! To be able to speak, listen and respond to the world around them so that they can be a useful part of life rather than "outside looking in". Limited verbal skills will not only negatively impact that individual, it also keeps a potentially useful member of society stuck on a path that offers no options.
We have an Urgent need for substitute Tutors and small-group tutors at the beginning and intermediate level. All training and continuing support is provided by us as you join an elite team of Tutors who are making a tangible impact in their community while enriching their own lives through the process of tutoring. It is an illuminating, rewarding and interesting experience!!
Please call Laura M. Lane at (845) 452-8670 or email your inquiries to lmlane@literacyconnections.org to find out how you can get started!!
